FAQ

The stuff people always ask.

What does the $20 cover?

An event shirt, your race bib, and entry to either race. You get blasted with color several times on the way round either way. Want to throw your own? Powder packs are on sale race day.

Is it timed?

No. Run it, jog it, walk it, stop for photos, cartwheel through a color station. Nobody is keeping time and nobody is going to care. Bring a watch if you want a number.

Is the powder safe?

It is cornstarch and food-grade FD&C dye. Non-toxic, biodegradable, and used at thousands of these events every year. It is still a fine powder, though: if you have asthma, a corn allergy, or any respiratory condition, use your judgment and consider a bandana over your mouth and nose in the color zones. Volunteers aim for the chest, never the face.

Can I bring a stroller?

Yes. Please line up at the back and keep to a walking pace. Your stroller will get colorful.

Can I bring my dog?

No. It is a lot of airborne powder and a lot of moving feet, and neither is good for a dog. Service animals are always welcome.

Is there anything after the race?

Yes, and it is the reason to bring the whole family. Bounce houses, a live DJ, food trucks, lawn games, a dunk tank, face painting and vendors. Free to everyone who runs.

Where does the money go?

This race funds Back To School Day: full backpacks, clothes, sneakers, haircuts and dental checks for 518 kids before the first day of school. Same crew that fed 600 families last Thanksgiving. See how that started.

Can my business sponsor it?

Yes, and we need you. Email hello@518great.org and we will send you the levels.

The Goal

Every dollar buys a backpack.

$0
of $20,000 goal
0% there $20,000 to go

That is roughly 1,000 full backpacks for 518 kids before the first day of school. Every registration and every sponsor dollar goes straight into it.

Why We're Running

This one buys backpacks.

Every dollar raised at this race goes to Back To School Day: a full bag of supplies for the year, plus clothes, sneakers, haircuts and dental checks for local kids, before the first day of school.

The people running this fed more than 600 families last Thanksgiving out of a gym floor in Queensbury. That is how 518 Great started.
